Reclaiming your vision

People pushing through their limits as the sun illuminates their way.

You must push past your limits.

In my past life, circa 2016–2017, I got an opportunity to work as an assistant story editor for the infamous reality show Bad Girls Club. It was an incredible experience that I am honored to have had. To this day, there’s a special place in my heart for some of the people I worked with on that show.

My supervisor in that season of my life was someone who had been transparent and supportive from the very first conversation in her office. She gave me an honest glimpse into her journey and offered me tips of things to look out for, financially and professionally. Her words held weight.

One day that weight was placed on me when she offered me the complement of being prolific. At the time I was five books into a publishing deal I’d signed fresh out of college. My sights were set on my 10-year plan of conquering the film industry. Then, I could have never fathomed the plot twists and delays I’d encounter.

Now seven years later, my vaults are abundant, and I’m now on the other side of conquering grief, doubt, disinterest and overall creative silence.

Through my experience, it is my hope that you reconnect with your vision and climb your way out of the hiatus that keeps you dormant. Let’s explore some new perspectives.

You Can’t Fight the Pause

Have you ever seen someone get sick or experience an accident that benches them for a season or two. You run into them after some time and they come out saying, “I needed that rest.”

It’s likely because they knew they needed to slow down and didn’t take heed. The pause is necessary. Just as computers need a little pause for a system update, everyone needs a moment of pause to rest and regenerate. When you understand this, the pause will feel less like a setback and more like a training session.

Find the Disconnect, Find your Spark

A hiatus can be temporary. Others can last longer than expected. We can get lost in the pause when we focus on all of the things we claim we are unready for. Day by day it becomes harder to climb out of the hermetic void of a hiatus because we focus on everything outside of ourselves.

It’s important to take any pause as an opportunity to reevaluate EVERYTHING, starting with yourself. Retrace your steps to identify dissatisfaction. List out the contributors to your burnout. Find the answer to, “How did I get here?”

Take the time to reevaluate your approach and make it a priority to pinpoint those factors that throw you off course.

Consider everything. Maybe your processes need adjustment. Perhaps your approach lacks authenticity which is ultimately unsustainable.

Baby Steps Move You Forward

So often exposure to the world around us can cause us to question our value and positioning amidst it all. The comparison game can contribute to stagnancy.

We witness someone’s “fast” momentum, discounting their preparation and sacrifice. We may feel personally delayed, ultimately disregarding time and personal destiny.

Trust in your mission, your vision and your reason why. In order to retain your spark, you must remain open to learn and evolve as you are meant to. Find the driving force that is authentic to you and apply it everyday. Disrupted momentum is not an official stop.

Apply the Principles of PETTY

Sometimes in the midst of our overthinking, we may find ourselves concerned with the wrong things. I have found that the five principles of PETTY (Perceive, Explore, Train, Transform, Yield) are perfect for realigning my thoughts. Perceive is geared towards seeing the unseen good in any situation. Once identified, you can explore the opportunities available in every situation. Learn to train yourself against your triggers. Strengthen your weaknesses and transform into the powerhouse you were always meant to be. Your life will begin to yield you incredible protection, support, abundance and progress just as you’ve desired.

Different seasons serve different purposes. Is this your season to get back on track?

I created an incredible journal that supports your efforts as you try to realign your vision.
