The five principles of petty

Hello my co-Visionary,

I’ve been thinking and I want to tell you about something.

Have you ever had a plan only for it to be derailed by circumstance?

Or, have you gotten a great idea but lost inspiration before you could devise a plan because fear and doubt began to set in?

If the answer is yes to any of those questions, I’ll raise my hand to join you. I have personally experienced my own derailment from false starts, to unplanned setbacks, and in all honesty misjudgments on my part. Discernment plays a huge part in this journey overall.

We all experience a whirlwind of seasons. Some we’re prepared for, others, not so much.

Think about it. Life is a process you must process.

Some people find it hard to push through the smallest of setbacks, let alone dream past disappointments.

So often those with incredible potential give up just shy of their goal. I hope you are here reading this article because you refuse to give up.

As the founder of Petty Thoughts Productions, I found myself searching for more meaning in the name Petty and why I couldn’t accept defeat. Yes, it's my maiden name, but beyond its dictionary authorized definition; I needed it to mean more. I’ve found this much needed meaning along my journey of overcoming my own seasons of challenge.

Regardless of the chaos going on around me, I am able to realign myself by applying five principles of PETTY, a framework I’ve developed over the years. Each principle within this framework has allowed me to evolve emotionally and mentally, remaining present, grounded and rooted in my purpose at all times.

What are the principles of the PETTY? Potential, Explore, Train, Transform, and Yield.

Let me break it down for you.

Potential

This principle starts with being present. When you come to realize that the possibilities are endless and time isn’t our concern, you’ll begin to reprogram how you see your self-imposed limitations. There is always an opportunity for you to grow and evolve. The same goes for the ideas that you desire to bring to fruition. Trust your potential and reach it.

Explore

You’ll never know what you’re capable of if you never give yourself an opportunity to explore your capabilities. Every  moment of unfamiliarity is an opportunity to familiarize yourself with the new. Examine the opportunities within a place, mindset, and even the onset of emotions. Actively seeking understanding can only aid in identifying the unsaid that impacts our day to day. Maintaining such curiosity will ensure you are focused on moving forward.

TraiN

Repetition leads to muscle memory. For every skill you think you’re good at, mastery is the goal. By intently developing yourself mentally, physically, spiritually; you learn to control yourself during situations intended to throw you off balance. Train so that you are prepared at all times.

Transform

External projections and negative thoughts of others can have a grave impact on our growth. You must learn how to ignore these external distractions in order to evolve. Your dedication to growth will transform you mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Learn to adjust and allow yourself to transform as you release, accept and receive all the great things that are ahead of you.

Yield

The things we endure and fight through are not in vain. Our ability to see the purpose and meaning in all circumstances will yield an abundance of strengths, skills and unlocked passions amidst the material things along the way. It is only through hard work, resilience, and consistently picking yourself back up, that will lead you to the success you desire.

Life is a process you must process. In every moment of your life you are tasked with moving through unfamiliar tides to complete your mission. Your journey begins when you have the desire to fight through your circumstances regardless of the current state. The five principles of PETTY are your foundation for staying present and pushing through.
